Interiors Trends – What’s New for 2016?

Interiors website Houzz is predicting 70s house plants, perspex and gold!

interiors with house plantsIf this sounds like some sort of retro design nightmare don’t despair – quality materials and craftsmanship never go out of fashion. They always stand out on their own although many of our clients like to juxtapose contemporary design with classic craftsmanship in their furniture.

We predict that in 2016 people will choose to invest in lasting bespoke furniture made for their particular home, with a move away from ‘cheap’ flat-pack that doesn’t last and before long will often end up in landfill.

Environmental issues will continue to come to the fore and the desire for sustainable furniture that can last a lifetime will see more people looking into what it could offer and many will be surprised at just how affordable it is.

And yes – while perspex can add space and colour with a dining chair, a coffee table or kitchen splashback, we feel that the texture of real wood, with a beautiful, unique grain, makes that intuitive connection between indoors and outdoors in a way that other materials cannot.

Speaking of texture another big prediction for 2016 will be new combinations of textures such as gold, wood, marble and stone. Mixed cabinetry with a range of finishes in the kitchen will become big news. Elle decoration predict that black stainless steel will become a new essential for items such as fridge freezers and oven finishes.

Copper has been big news in the last few years with most of our friends owning at least one copper lined lighting fixture however gold is set to see a resurgence in interiors in 2016 adding a little glamour to more minimalist looks.

Incorporating technology in furniture design is big news for 2016 and one we at Conquest have been talking about for a while now. Our inlaid phone chargers can be combined with any of our handcrafted furniture leaving you with less wires to trip over and a slick modern solution to device charging. Our Buckinghamshire showroom is a hive of modern technology built into beautiful classic furniture so do pop overhand visit us if you get a chance in 2016.
