Stunning Georgian Revival

Juliette Whiting and her husband, Charlie Whiting (of Formula 1 fame), renovated their 18th century Georgian property; transforming the interior to reflect their own personal taste and style to bring out the spectacular features of the house. Juliette said:

“I had heard of Conquest’s excellent reputation from a number of friends, but it was only when I saw a Conquest advert in a homes and interior magazine, and saw the Lexington Lounge photograph that I was prompted to get in touch, as it was exactly the kind of look I wanted to create in my home.”

Mr and Mrs Whiting moved into their Georgian style property over a year ago and wanted to put their own personal touch to their already remarkable home. The property’s previous owners had opted for very dark, rich colours, although Juliette was extremely tempted by black fabrics and bronze patterned wallpaper,

“I was a little concerned that the strong and beautifully designed wallpapers would date and compete with the house and architecture, rather than complement it.”

Juliette wanted to lighten up and transform her new home with white woodwork in the entrance hall and pale colours in order to create a bright and relaxing design, which could then supplemented with splashes of colour, such as the red stair-runner. When asked what inspired the design of her home, Juliette answered:

“My choice in tones and colours was inspired by the colonial-revival style of architecture represented by the Raffles hotel in Singapore, a style very much influenced by Georgian architecture in Britain. Georgian style homes tend to draw on the classical orders of architecture and I wished to bring these elements into the decor of my home.”

The bright interior, pale colours and white carved wooden panelling complement the dark teak flooring and bring out the beautiful features of the house such as the chandelier, the columns and the galleried landings, reinforcing its romantic Georgian character.
